So finally, I crossed 3 million downloads on Windows Phone. Thanks to the Windows Phone community, DVLUP program, Microsoft/Nokia Developer Evangelists and Technical Evangelists who helped tremendously and all fellow developers who inspired me to do better. Thanks to DVLUP program for awarding me with the LEGEND status for over a million downloads in last 6 months.
Downloads started on April 6th, 2012. The first million was reached on May 20th, 2013, the second million on Nov 23rd, 2013 and the third on April 22nd, 2014. The release of Windows Phone 8 has really helped with the upward curve for many developers.
Download breakdown by App
|Air Soccer Fever||April 2012||FREE: 2,585,488 PRO: 28,251||4.5 star worldwide – with over 5000 ratings in several countries|
|Sea Quest||March 2013||FREE: 107,381 PRO: 290||3.5 star|
|Tank Arena||December 2013||222,653||4.1 star worldwide|
|Super Polygon||March 2014||60,402||4.5 star worldwide|
Air Soccer Fever is leading the way with 2.58 million downloads over 2 years in store, but it also has a few things going for it. First, soccer is a popular keyword to search for and soccer is a favorite sport in many countries and second, it provides a unique feature to the players – to be able to play online multiplayer in realtime.
Sea Quest did not really pick up and is only at 107K downloads in a year.
Tank Arena and Super Polygon are doing pretty well, each doing 50K downloads/month. They are the most recent releases and developed in Unity3D.
As a hobbyist game developer – mostly over the weekends – these are very encouraging numbers for me. I will keep developing awesome games for windows phone users – exciting times ahead 🙂
